BIG SKY GIRLS - VOLUME TWO
Founded by Deb Suckling from SugarRush Music and her partner Craig Spann in 2017 – BIG SKY GIRLS has gone on to support more than 36 young regional women in music – who you can discover right here! Since 2017– Deb and Craig and their children Jude and Susie have opened up their home in Brisbane to young women who travel from across regional and remote areas to take part in two annual camps.
BIG SKY GIRLS focuses on supporting songwriting and performance skills, musical composition and builds confidence and self-esteem in young regional women in Australia – we are a very big country and many young women have no access or support to build their songwriting careers. BIG SKY GIRLS helps establish important networks and industry knowledge for those involved and plays a key role in keeping songwriting and storytelling alive – and providing much needed opportunity.
With the support of an incredible army of mentors who you can see on our mentor page – established female leaders in music and songwriters who have had incredible success in their own right – and thanks to support from our funding bodies and sponsors :The Australia Council for the Arts, Arts Queensland, APRA AMCOS and Virgin Australia – we have been able to support these young women to make some huge leaps and bounds in their careers.
BIG SKY GIRLS happens with the support of these funding bodies. But now we also have a range of merch where you can support young women in music in regional and remote areas by purchasing some of our merch which has been designed and made by one of our girls Cassi Marie. Proceeds from merch sales will go to providing online vocal , songwriting and music lessons to young women in remote areas and equipment. BIG SKY GIRLS culminates in an annual songwriting and recording camp in Brisbane with participants selected via an application process. You can join our mailing list here for all of our updates. We invite you to listen to the stories and songs of these incredible young women.
